This is a quick post as I am in a large time constraint, but your friendly neighbourhood reviewer is back, and you can certainly expect to see more of me in the coming weeks, stay tuned!

Random Editions Episode One

[Kettle Cooked Chips, Screeching Bats, and Exploding Blocks]

“It is an honor to welcome viewers and readers alike to this first edition of– the aptly named so it seems– Random Editions. This new sort of ‘show’ in the form of a post– and maybe even the occasional podcast or audiocast or, if we’re feeling really good, a video– is an excellent way to answer some Q&A that the readers and community may have about anything from video gaming to music to politics to– who knows what else? This first one may be titled, “Kettle Cooked Chips, Screeching Bats, and Exploding Blocks” but really covers anything we’ve been asked, or just heard. Well, I guess it’s time to start, so here we go!”

–plainwrek [OWNER/ADMIN]

So, let’s see– first up on the list… Kettle Cooked Chips?! Umm…oo-kay… Well, they’re kettle cooked and– No, no!! That’s not how this goes! You guys are here for the Random Editions showing, right? Yeah– you see? This isn’t what you want to hear– is it?! No, it’s not. Well, here’s the actual post– all joking aside.

Pt. 1: Kettle Cooked Chips

For the curious staff here at AC|Prime Reviews and for our inclusive readers, kettle cooking may be a mystery. Where did it come from? Who knows? Who invented it? Who cares? If these questions and answers are any good hints– nobody really cares or knows about kettle cooking, short of Googling it. I mean, really? C’mon. Nobody’s going to look that up, right? All we truthfully can say we know– unless you majored in food science, which I didn’t– is that kettle cooking makes everything taste better! Chips? You’d better believe it. Popcorn? Duh! Turtle legs? Umm, sure?! When it really boils down to it, while Filet Mignon may be considered fine dining nirvana, the true master of taste is the simple art of Ye Olde Kettle Cooke. Enjoy some popcorn the next time you pass a kettle cooking booth or vendor on the street!

Pt. 2: Gears of War 3

Why on Earth would the producers of such a great series decide to raise speculation and anticipation for their third and final installment by making a mess-up announcement on the floor at a press conference? Oh– and here’s the best part: They released news for the GoW3 game…one year ahead of schedule! Isn’t that great?! Who are we kidding? Of course that’s not good! That’s almost as bad as that crappy Dreamcast Battle Toads sequel they made! I mean– if the first game wasn’t bad enough, still– why make a sequel?! Anyway, we all still love Gears of War, but that announcement had to cost a lot, and divert fans’ attention from the prospects of it, since it was so early. While we were looking forward to it after seeing some cameos of Underwater battles, Female characters, Mech Suits, and More Save Slots— our happiness crashed when the final screen showed, “Gears of War 3, Releasing…2011.” WTF?! Way to lose our attention now that you just grabbed it. All in all, it’s not too far away now, but still…

Pt. 3: Screeching Bats

Bats?! What does this have to do with anything? Well, did you now there are over 4,000 species of bat…in half of South America alone? No. What about this: Did you know there is only one true type of blood sucking bat? No. See? What did you truly know about bats in general? Umm…they fly? No!! Wait– oh yeah, but still… Now, let’s talk about screeching bats. They use their even-louder-than-usual sonar ‘waves’ to sense things more clearly than normal bats, and use their screech to paralyze prey as well. When prey hears it, it panics and gets eaten. Normal prey consists of very small rodents, and bugs. Well, there’s bats for ya’.

Pt. 4: Minor Studios

I’m sure some of you Atmosphir players and fans alike have been wondering about MiST and their involvement in the production and updating of the whole Atmosphir Project. Well, here are some tidbits you may or may not have known. Some first sketches and ideas for Atmosphir were being drawn– both in minds and on paper– in early 2006, and it was later announced at a Tech Cruch 50 conference in early 2008. MiST first officially worked on Atmosphir in 2007, however. The game has gone through at least 30 updates from beginning to Stratosphir, or the new Atmosphir. Also, MiST is supposedly currently working on Aorua (Probably spelled wrong) as the next phase for Atmosphir. There you go– interesting tidbits.

Pt. 5: Exploding Blocks

Exploding Blocks are a new thing to Atmosphir. They explode from glitches, bombed blocks, and various other things I care not to list. They can happen for all sorts of reasons, generally. Usually, you only see them when they are bombable blocks, or when a falling object falls into the middle of a quicksand pit. Also, a few designers have made some cool levels and concepts along the lines of blasters or other items that include an explosion in some way, shape, or form. Yep, that’s right. We know you like explosions, so enjoy the creative ideas of the community in some levels based on Exploding Block concepts!

Now that we have reached the end, this episode has been good, and I’m sure many more will follow. As Dave and MiST say– Imagination First!

“Chamber of Courage[Small09]” by MarcoK

Although this level was made almost a year ago, MarcoK’s epic miniturized level is still a level to be taken completely seriously. This 20×20 cube of pure Portal-esque adventure is an amazing and in-depth view at what goes on in some labs. This cool experiment has a wonderful story and implements some– at that time– new concepts that are still fresh even today. An epic low-jump level based along the lines of many of his old levels, this one is shown in it’s difficulty in the fact that to this date, the only person able to beat it is Colinnn. Our nnnovel writer can’t be the only person to have played it?! I challenge you– the community– to play this level and see if you can survive…

“Ivory Fortress” by Giantfishy

The ‘Mind behind the Madness’ in this case for this beautiful– yet extremely unforgiving and deadly– level happens to be none other than the epic fish himself, Giantfishy! The level we have come to know as Ivory Fortress has been an extremely difficult addition to the ranks of levels that adorn the halls of Cirrus. Although it is rated Intermediate, it is indeed– to my delight– a much harder level than that. As with many of ‘Fishy’s levels, this one too has greater puzzles, greater depth, and greater time put into it than many other designer’s level combined even. With over days of testing and input, this level truly delivers as it has completely blown my mind– and most likely the minds of most of the community. Dazzling in it’s simplicity and looks, this stunning fortress is a true force to be reckoned with. We love you Giantfishy, just not in that way. 😉

Daily Designer- Pip1

For our new special designer review– not of one level, but of the designer as a whole– we find designers that have stood out, and write about their newest endeavors. Today’s designer in mind for the Daily Designer review is none other than Stratosphir newcomer, Pip1. With only two levels– albeit epic ones– under his belt, you may wonder how  he gets this over top notch designers like Bigdrip681, Cameocool, or Cmmatzat who have been around for awhile– thus being considered seasoned designers. How he has done this is by completely wowing everyone with his [Castle10] entry– and placing level– Abandoned Fortress v1.0 as well as his newer popular level, Threshold of Reflection. The latter being based solely on platforming, parkour, and exploration– it is easy to love his intermediate adventures, especially when you can truly salivate while anticipating the next one. 😉 Only here can it be shown a true example of a designer everyone can’t wait to see another level from. Already, Pip1 is starting to woo players just how Okaysamurai and EliteBlackDragon do with their epic sagas. I expect we can see further greatness from this young Atmosphirian in the future, and can’t wait for them either…

“Quest for Absolutely Nothing” by Cheezyboom

Veteran designer– and winner of some well-deserved LOTD’s– Cheezyboom has made a wonderful and inviting leaderboard challenge in the form of Quest for Absolutely Nothing. While the level itself only has a few difficult fast-paced platforming parts, the real fun is in the players all attempting to steal gold and a top place on the leaderboards from each other. With these awesome new block additions, the level opens up to some more scenic gameplay, and also shows off the new design models. Although short in length, this level makes up for it in a brief puzzle. First, you must hit a block repeatedly into a dip in order to be able to reach it’s top– which is made annoying to no fault of Cheezyboom’s, as the block is just to heavy by MiST’s design– while next you must quickly jump and ledge-hang repeatedly on some falling blocks. After this comes an easy moving platform segment in which you realize you can’t jump the distance between a block and the finish flag in the next room. To solve this small puzzle, you turn around, head through the small corridor behind you, jump on a platform and avoid a few spikes placed in strategic areas, and jump back on to avoid it disappearing and sending you to your death. Once in the upper room, you trigger two moving platforms and race back down to the original level through a teleporter– thus being at the beginning of the moving platform segment. Now it is as easy as jumping from platform to platform to the finish. All in all, this level only takes experienced players about three minutes tops to complete– or at least, it should. A wonderful design on Cheezyboom’s part and welcome addition to his other exciting levels.

“Fortress in the Burning Sky” by Sixshooter

With it’s enthralling story, sweet design, sleek looks, excellent usage of traps, and the fact that it is, “one of the seven wonders of the evil world”Fortress in the Burning Sky has a lot going for it. Also, it not only has super difficult puzzles, but maintains it’s 5 star rating as well. Although it was made a month ago, it remains fresh and awesome every single time you play it, replay it, or replay it once more. With this in mind, everybody should play this level and see just how truly awesome Sixshooter’s newest work has turned out to be. This epic of a level can just slip under the radar unnoticed, so– if it hasn’t already– I expect this one to win LOTD, or at least be a big competitor– as it is most certainly a contender in all rights… Great job with an epic play challenge, Sixshooter!
